QUILTING A STORY
Dakota Community Centre offers Kraft Korner for Older Adults

Few things are more comforting and warm than  curling up in a quilt on  a cold snowy Winnipeg night. Quilts also tell a beautiful story of the people it has brought together.  As a narrative part of many cultures, traditional quilts were made by hand. These techniques may be a historical tradition but are not a  passing fad.

Originally quilts were made out of necessity to create  warm bedding from local fabrics in the early days of the colonies. Now, as a pass time, these quilts are made by local artisans who want to create their own patterns and techniques
to share memories with friends and families.

At Dakota Community Centre, groups of friends and neighbors gather to work on their own quilts and crafts together. By meeting every Thursday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. or 6:00-9:00 p.m., these quilters have built a therapeutic setting where they've grown friendships, shared ideas and learned new techniques. Kraft Korner invites all artisans from the various branches of creative activity to join at anytime!

All quilts made by these talented individuals will be display ed at
our Christmas Craft Sale on November 7th and 8th. Come down and meet the people who created these beautiful and unique quilts. Contact Karen Irvine at 204-254-1010 ext 206 for more information.
