Sod-turning Marks the Beginning of New Fieldhouse at Dakota Community Centre
The dream of a Fieldhouse at Dakota Community Centre took another step closer to reality on November 10, when representatives from the Province, the City and Dakota turned the sod to mark the beginning of construction.

Joining Board President Tom Thiessen and CEO Michele Augert with shovels and kind remarks were, Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman, Theresa Oswald, MLA for Seine River, Christine Melnyk, MLA for Riel, and City Councillor Brian Mayes.  Many partners, supporters and friends from the community, along with staff, past and present Board members and volunteers, braved the chill and threat of rain to be there to witness this historic day for the Centre.

With the sod turned, Ft3 Architecture and Landscape Interior Designs are busy completing the design details, while preparations are underway for the arrival of Bird Construction, who will begin to erect fencing around the construction site in the coming weeks.

Plans for the 60,000 square foot multi-use facility have been under serious discussion since 2011 when, the first funding commitments were made.  Since then, many have worked collaboratively and cooperatively to see this project come to life.
The new Fieldhouse is expected to open in spring 2017.

More information on the new Fieldhouse can be found at  www.dakotacc.com

    Volunteer Spotlight
Congratulations Wayne Hiltz and Dave Burges for receiving the General Council of Winnipeg Community Centre's
ABOVE AND BEYOND AWARD!

Wayne Hiltz a true inspiration!
Wayne Hiltz has been a Dakota volunteer for 20+ years, and began by coaching various sports in    which his 3 children participated.
Wayne served on the Dakota Community Centre Board of Directors from 2003 to 2010, and filled various positions including Director of Hockey, Treasurer, and Vice President  of Finance and Administration.
Wayne's expertise in a variety of areas, his even temperateness, and his aptitude for sound policy and decision making made him an invaluable member of Dakota's board. He was also very supportive of his fellow  board members and volunteers, and was always gracious with lending a hand to assist in their efforts whenever needed.
Thank you Wayne for you continued support, volunteerism and dedication to Dakota Community Centre. It's only with the assistance of local volunteers such as yourself that we find success and can rise to meet new challenges.

Dave Burgess, 20 years of Volunteering!
Dave Burgess has been a volunteer with Dakota for 20 years, serving as a coach and manager for Dakota's soccer, softball, hockey and inline hockey teams since the club's most recent expansion in 1996. He joined the Dakota board in 2004, and has served various roles including Director of Softball, Director of Inline Hockey, Director of Fundraising and is presently Director of Fundraising and Special Events. Dakota Community Centre, and the community surrounding, has great appreciation and gratitude to Dave for his tireless efforts in keeping our centre a strong and vibrant part of our community.
